Compress PDF to a size target
Choose preservation mode to retain text and page graphics, or compress scanned pages more strongly. Set an optional file-size target; a target is a maximum to aim for, not a guaranteed exact size. Keep the original.
One PDF · up to 20 MB · 100 pages maximum
Preservation mode may not reduce an already optimised file. Scanned-page mode rebuilds pages as images and loses selectable text, links, forms and signatures.
Output is not guaranteed to be smaller. The result reports the actual change. Up to 50 pages per export.
Text extraction follows the PDF’s stored reading order; columns and tables may need cleanup. This is not a layout-preserving PDF-to-Word conversion.
Using Compress PDF
Choose a PDF, set a maximum size if needed, select a compression mode and inspect the output before sharing.
Example: A PDF that must fit under 1 MB
- Choose the PDF, enter 1 and select MB. Start with the content-preserving method.
- If the result exceeds the limit, use scanned-page compression only if you accept image-based pages and the loss of selectable text, links and forms.
- Compare the reported size and inspect small print in the download. If the target is not met, split the document or use a larger permitted limit.
What to check before sharing
Targets are not guaranteed. Lossless optimisation may not shrink a file. Scanned-page mode changes quality and removes selectable text and interactions.
